Why Brevard Yards Need Retaining Walls
Most of Brevard is flat, but that doesn't mean yards stay put. Lots get built up so homes sit above the street. Pool decks get raised. Side yards slope down toward a swale or a canal. Every one of those grade changes needs something to hold the soil in place.
Our sandy soil makes that harder. Sand drains fast, but it also washes out fast. One summer storm can carve a gully along a slope, wash dirt onto your patio and undercut the edge of a driveway or walkway. A retaining wall stops that loss and keeps the ground right where it belongs.
Water is the real enemy. When heavy rain soaks the soil behind a wall, that soil gets heavy and pushes hard. That's why walls built without drainage often lean or crack. We build every wall with a stone base, gravel behind the block and a way for water to get out, so storms don't push it out of line.

Block Retaining Walls
Segmental block walls lock together row by row. They're strong, they handle our wet season well and they come with textured or smooth faces. Taller or tiered walls can tame a bigger slope and give the yard some depth.
Seat Walls
A seat wall is a low wall at sitting height with a smooth cap on top. Wrap one around a patio or fire pit and you've added seating for a crowd without buying more chairs.
Raised Planters and Garden Walls
Raised planters lift your plants out of the sand and give them better soil to grow in. Garden walls frame beds, line a walkway or edge the yard so mulch and dirt stay put after a storm.
Columns, Caps and Steps
Finish a wall with columns at the corners, a clean cap along the top or steps cut into the slope. These details tie the wall into your pavers and make the yard easier to walk.

Dig and Build the Base
We dig out the area and lay a compacted base. It carries the weight of the wall and the soil behind it.
Add Drainage
Drainage goes into the wall system so water can't build up and push on the wall after a storm.
Set the Blocks
Each row goes down level and lined up, so the wall stands strong and looks straight.
Backfill and Finish
We fill and compact the area behind the wall to lock the whole system in place.
